The first one is Ashiwini – a Security Guard in my society. He had cavities in his teeth but he ignored them as he had no money to spare for the treatment. One day, he met me and asked for Rs. 300 as loan so that he can show to the doctor and as the pain was unbearable. I lent him the said amount.
The second one is Saroj – a House Maid in my society. Two days back she informed that she was suffering from typhoid. Today she returned to work. We were surprised how can typhoid be cured in just 2 days ? Her revelation shocked us. She had consulted a quack in her vicinity, who gave her steroid, injections and saline drip. She was very happy that she is back to work in just two days.
She will not be losing her wages, but alas after a week she was down with fever, and other complications because of sudden discontinuation of the steroid and after effects. Unfortunately she had to be hospitalized for 1 month and on bed rest for the next two weeks.
The third one is Kamala – a maid working nearby in my locality. Her daughter was bitten by a stray dog and was bleeding. The mother was in helpless state and was unable to decide how to get the daughter treated. After all, taking to village was not possible as the wound required immediate attention. We helped her to get the Rabies vaccination paying the full amount.
